Industry perspective is a valuable resource as the company diversifies and grows
(Warrenville, IL) Bill Walsh, a leading researcher in advancing steel development for pipeline and energy applications, is joining EN Engineering as Chief Metallurgist. He rejoins the company after serving as program leader at ArcelorMittal Global R&D, researching applications and solutions, plates, energy, and infrastructure products. The position focused on advancing steel development for pipeline and energy applications.
Previously for EN Engineering, Walsh led the Metallurgical group providing client services for pipe and fitting specification and procurement, pipe mill quality audits, welding procedure development, component hydrotest and burst tests, failure analysis, finite element stress analysis, and fitness-for service assessments.
Bill Walsh has been working in line pipe metallurgy, including research at Battelle on fatigue and fracture properties of line pipe steels, as a metallurgist working with Gene Smith at Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America, and most recently developing line pipe steels and characterizing properties at ArcelorMittal, an international steel manufacturer.
On his return to EN, Walsh observed, “EN has always provided clients with high standards of metallurgical support, from pipe and fitting procurement and quality reviews, welding procedures and construction assistance, through integrity assessments and root cause failure analysis. I look forward to leading EN’s talented metallurgical team in continuing to provide excellence in material services.”
“When I first started at EN in 2006, the focus was primarily on oil and natural gas transmission and distribution projects. EN was very adept at using crossover knowledge between designers, procurement, corrosion, metallurgy, and construction specialists to deliver a uniquely tailored package. With EN’s growth into a full service, multidisciplinary engineering service provider, this same philosophy provides an excellent basis for serving clients across many industries. The continual energy supply source reallocation within the US requires continual innovation for integrity and line maintenance strategies as well as new line construction.”
EN CEO Steve Knowles welcomes Bill Walsh as its Chief Metallurgist during a period of exceptional foundational growth at the company, “We are excited to have Bill join us in such an important leadership role,” he said. “The timing is exceptional with our plans for solidifying relationships with key clients and serving new markets.”
Bill Walsh holds a Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Northwestern University, an MS in Metallurgical Engineering and a BS in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
