An overview of the Gas HCA Master Tool toolbox
The Gas HCA Master Tool toolbox contains a collection of tools that streamline the process of analysis by combining and encapsulating tools from the Gas HCA Tool toolbox into a series of common workflows that allow you to calculate Class Location or HCA-MCA ranges using single tools. This collection of tools reflects G2-IS’ preferred best practices for performing Class Location and HCA-MCA analysis. However, at G2-IS, we recognize that many operators have their own preferred workflows and best practices for Class Location and HCA-MCA analysis. For this reason, we have implemented the tools in the Gas HCA Master Tool toolbox as Esri ModelBuilder model tools. You can easily configure these tools using ModelBuilder to suit your own needs, and to conform them to your own preferred workflows and best practices.
The Gas HCA Master Tool toolbox contains five tools:
Tool | Description |
Class Location | Imports required source data from your pipeline database into a Gas HCA Tool project geodatabase, performs data conditioning and intermediate calculations, and calculates Class Location ranges per 49 CFR §192.5. |
HCA (Method 1) | Imports required source data from your pipeline database into a Gas HCA Tool project geodatabase, performs data conditioning and intermediate calculations, and calculates HCA ranges by method 1 (using Class Location ranges output by the Class Location tool) per 49 CFR §192.903(1). |
HCA (Method 1 – External Class Location Data) | Imports required source data from your pipeline database into a Gas HCA Tool project geodatabase, performs data conditioning and intermediate calculations, and calculates HCA ranges by method 1 (using Class Location ranges from an external source) per 49 CFR §192.903(1). |
HCA-MCA (Method 2) | Imports required source data from your pipeline database into a Gas HCA Tool project geodatabase, performs data conditioning and intermediate calculations, and calculates HCA and MCA ranges by method 2 (the PIR method) per 49 CFR §192.903(2). |
HCA-MCA (Method 2 – Without Roads) | Imports required source data from your pipeline database into a Gas HCA Tool project geodatabase, performs data conditioning and intermediate calculations, and calculates HCA and MCA ranges by method 2, but without considering roads, which improves processing performance. Only the HCA range output of this tool is viable; this tool is intended for use in calculating HCA ranges prior to the effective date of the first phase of the ‘Gas Mega Rule’ (84 FR 52180, effective July 1, 2020). This tool will be deprecated after that date. |
